Jonty's Vietnamese Eatery is the latest Vietnamese restaurant to open in Morgan Hill. Located at the Caltrain Station on Depot at Third Street, they manage to maximize this tiny location.
Jonty's was opened by Jon and Kim in March of 2013 naming the restaurant after their daughter. Jon is a Silicon Valley tech veteran who decided that he wants to feed people and make them happy. He is succeeding in his mission.
The menu is simple yet innovative. I love their delicious banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) served on crunchy baguettes featuring a meat or tofu filling and garnished with both fresh and pickled vegetables, cilantro and garlic aioli. Jonty's selections of fillings include: lemongrass pork, anchovy garlic steak, a very indulgent pork belly, cha lua (Vietnamese pork ham) and tofu. They offer these same meats on rice bowls on jasmine or shallot turmeric fried rice and also as salads.
As the food is prepared fresh to order, you may experience a brief wait. You can bridge that time with a nosh on Mama's egg roll or the spring rolls that are two very large rolls of rice paper, stuffed with shrimp, pork, lettuce and rice noodles.
Now I get the really good part, at least for me. I am a coffee addict or I may go as far as saying I have a coffee lifesytle. I have a collection of Italian espresso makers; I abuse our Nespresso machine. Jonty's makes an amazing Vietnamese iced coffee. It is beautifully balanced between the sweetened condensed milk and the rich taste of dark roast coffee. Just in case a regular iced coffee is not enough to start your engine he makes up a "Jonty" in which he adds two shots of espresso into the mix.
Jonty's also offers daily lunch specials for $5.00.
